Following our last event in 2019, the Skinningrove Bonfire Committee have spent considerable time and effort seeking ways to resolve, mitigate or manage the issues we faced. Sadly, we have had to accept the fact that we are unable to adequately do so and the likelihood of a repeat is far too high for us to consider another Skinningrove Bonfire. As with most of life's events, there comes an end. For the Skinningrove Bonfire, the organising committee have, reluctantly, had to accept that our time has come. There will be no more Skinningrove Bonfire. The only positive we can glean is that we have ended as a result of our success, rather than our failure. 

For over 30 years, this tiny village in a remote corner of East Cleveland has created a truly spectacular annual event, much loved by many who have supported us from all corners of the world. A small band of willing volunteers have dedicated so much of their time and energy into making such a wonderful event possible. Their efforts have been rewarded by the many thousands who have visited Skinningrove to see the bonfire, or take part in the many associated fund-raising events. There are far too many individuals and organisations involved to name them individually, but they should all be proud of what they have achieved. Not least in putting Skinningrove on the map for all the right reasons. 

We are so very proud of what has been achieved in Skinningrove, and we are reluctant to let all that effort fade into a distant memory just yet, so we are looking into ways we can use any remaining funds to commemorate this fantastic achievement and keep those memories alive. Ideas we are currently exploring include a book, an art installation on the beach, exhibitions and a mural in the village. We are already making progress on an archive of the many, many photo's of the bonfire, old and new, which we hope to digitise and make accessible to any interested people in due course. But we would welcome any further ideas from any friends of the Skinningrove Bonfire who may have contributed over the years. Once we have some firm ideas to progress, we shall, of course, share them with you. All that remains to be said for now is to thank you all for your support, kind words, encouragement, time, effort, blood, sweat and tears over the last 3+ decades. To everyone who has been involved, in whatever capacity, including the many thousands of people who have come to see our beautiful, spectacular bonfires, we thank you.
